DESCRIPTION:  Between 1959 and 1961 Davie produced a number of works with pared down content, a marked change from the frenetic and gestural paintings of the earlier decade. Simplified compositions such as Knight Dreams of his Castle and The Horse that said How contain balance structures in softer palette.
