A highly unusual gilt bronze and rouge griotte clock in the early neo-classical style. The clock face flanked by fluted and reeded pilasters with foliate enriched scrolls. The whole surmounted by an elaborate pomegranate finial. The clock stands on a rouge griotte plinth enriched with foliate swags and terminating in the original gilt bun feet. The movement, signed and by Roque.
The maker of the clock Jean Léonard Roque (d. after 1789), was appointed Horloger du Roi and was an ingenious mechanic, specialised in the production of luxury clocks.
