Daido Moriyama (japonais, né le 10 octobre 1938 à Ikeda City) est un artiste japonais prolifique, connu en tant que photographe, designer graphique et auteur. Moriyama étudie la photographie au studio Takeji Iwamiya avant de déménager à Tokyo en 1961 pour rencontrer les membres de VIVO. Moriyama devient l’assistant de Eikoh Hosoe (japonais, né en 1933) et ce poste lui permet d’accéder au monde de la photo de Tokyo.

En 1968, Moriyama réalise la collection de photographies Nippon gekijo shashincho au contraste élevé et dans laquelle il se concentre sur le monde indigène ou les quelques choses indigènes qui n’ont pas été corrompues par le monde qui s’industrialise de plus en plus. À la même période, il commence à attirer l’attention de beaucoup de jeunes artistes agressifs, la plupart photographes, en s’engageant dans le magazine Provoke. Les autres artistes qui participent également à ce projet de magazine sont Koji Tagi (japonais, né en 1928), Yutaka Takanashi (japonais, né en 1935), Takuma Nakahira (japonais, né en 1938) et Takahiko Okada (japonais, né en 1939). Outre Provoke, Moriyama contribue à d’autres magazines comme Camera Mainichi, Asahi Journal et Asahi Camera.

Ses collections de photographies, qui dépeignent la sensibilité physique, sont nombreuses et comprennent Hikari, Karyudo et Nakaji eno tabi. Moriyama possède une capacité incroyable à découvrir des parties isolées et souvent négligées des villes et les présente au monde à travers ses photographies. Par ailleurs, la plupart de ses photographies, composées principalement de scènes et d’objets familiers, présentent une brillance très élevée.

Dans les années 1970, Moriyama est en proie à des problèmes personnels et ne parvient pas à être productif. Ce n’est qu’au début des années 1980 qu’il se concentre à nouveau sur son travail ; il est même récompensé par le Prix de la Société de photographie remis par la Société de photographie à Tokyo. Il expose dans de nombreuses institutions, telles que le San Francisco Museum of Modern Art en 1999 et le MoMA de New York en 1974. Moriyama vit et travaille actuellement à Tokyo.
