1907   Immigrated to the United States, settled in Minneapolis
1915 - 1917   Attended the Minneapolis Institute of Arts
1918   Moved to New York City
Worked as a scenic and costume designer for Eugene O'Neil's Province Town Theater Group
1923   Married artist and sculptor Eugenie Gershoy, joined the artist colony at Woodstock, NY
1930   Joined the Communist Party in the 1930's and remained a life-long member
1931   Received the Guggenheim Fellowship in Fine Arts
1936 - 1937   Served as the first director of the American Artists School, New York, NY
Was a leader and active member of both the Artist's Union and the Artist's Congress
1935 - 1940   Joined the Federal Art Project
Became one of the first members of the Silk Screen Unit of the WPA/FAP
1977   Helped to organize a show of WPA artists at the Parsons School of Design
1992   Died of Alzheimer's disease in 1992
