L’artiste néo-pop Jeff Koons (américain, né le 21 janvier 1955 en Pennsylvanie aux États-Unis) suscite des réactions ambiguës face à ses monumentales sculptures d’objets du quotidien. Certains considèrent son travail important sur le plan historique alors que d’autres le voient comme un artiste en quête d’attention qui flatte le monde de l’art. Après des études à l’Institut de l’Art de Chicago et à l’université du Maryland, il subvient à ses besoins grâce à une carrière à Wall Street. Au début des années 1980, Koons fonde un studio et s’entoure d’assistants.

Très vite, il se crée une personnalité publique en engageant des consultants en image et en publiant des publicités stratégiques dans des publications d’art de haut de gamme. Son scandaleux mariage avec l’actrice porno Ciccolina et le divorce qui en a suivi attirent l’attention du public sur lui. Surtout connu pour les agrandissements d’objets tels que Puppy et sa grande collection de sculptures de ballons gonflés, Koons réalise aussi des séries de peintures, de photographies et de collages et déclare qu’il « souhaite créer un ensemble d’œuvres que tout le monde puisse apprécier ».
