Lynda Benglis (américaine, née le 25 octobre 1941) est une sculptrice connue pour incorporer des matériaux inhabituels qui remettent en question les notions traditionnelles de la féminité. Née à Lake Charles en Louisiane, Benglis obtient sa licence en beaux-arts à l’université Newcomb de la Nouvelle-Orléans en 1964 et elle étudie à la Brooklyn Museum School of Art de New York l’année suivante.

Ses premières œuvres incluent des peintures à la cire et la série Fallen Paintings, qu’elle crée en versant du latex coloré sur le sol. La gamme de matériaux sculpturaux s’étend pour inclure de la mousse polyuréthane, de l’aluminium moulé, du bronze et du plâtre. Dans les années 1970, elle réalise la série Torsos, des coquilles d’aluminium moulé qui dépassent du mur et Knots, des rubans de couleurs vives qui ressemblent à des silhouettes humaines en mouvement. Son travail sculptural est influencé par l’expressionnisme abstrait, le Color Field et le minimalisme. Elle crée des vidéos et des photographies, dont la publicité controversée publiée dans le numéro 1974 d’Artforum, qui représente l’artiste posant nue et de façon provocante. Benglis recherche à mettre au défi le discours des mâles dominants dans le domaine de l‘art en créant des œuvres sensuelles, axées sur le corps et décoratives. Ses œuvres ont été exposées au Whitney Museum de New York, au Walker Art Center de Minneapolis et au Centre Pompidou in Paris. Elle est représentée par la galerie Cheim & Read à New York. Benglis vit et travaille actuellement à New York et Santa Fe au Nouveau-Mexique.
