1900   Graduated from the Horace Mann School, New York, NY
Attended William Merritt Chase Summer School of Art, Shinnecock, Long Island, NY
Enrolled in Columbia University and studied architecture, New York, NY
1901 - 1902   Attended William Merritt Chase Summer School of Art, Shinnecock, Long Island, NY
1903   Left Columbia and attended New York School of Art full-time, New York, NY
Studied with Robert Henri and Kenneth Hayes Miller
Studied with Abbott Thayer, in NH during the summer
Began work with Ewing & Chappell, Architects, in New York (provides intermittent employment as an architectural draftsman for following ten years
Began relationship with George Chappell, forming a team of satirist––Kent under the pseudonym, Hogarth, Jr.––illustrated Life, Puck, Vanity Fair, and other publications throughout the teens and 1920s)
1905   Moved to Monhegan Island, ME, which remains his permanent address until 1910
1910   Taught at Monhegan Summer School of Art, Monhegan Island, ME; Travels to Newfoundland, Canada
1911   Moved to New York with his family and resumed work as an architectural draftsman
Opens summer school of art in Richmond, NH
1914 - 1915   Moved to Newfoundland
1916   Began submitting drawings to Harper’s Weekly and Vanity Fair under the pseudonym “Hogarth, Jr.”
1918   Gained early membership in the Whitney Studio Club, New York, NY; Travelled to Alaska
1919   Returned to New York, NY. Established Rockwell Kent, Inc. (dissolved in 1922)
1920   Published Wilderness: A Quiet Adventure in Alaska, launching his career as both a respected book illustrator and a writer
1922 - 1923   Traveled to Tierra del Fuego to paint
1925   Traveled to France to paint
1927 - 1928   Worked as editor for Creative Arts magazine
1930   Cape Dennis (MA) Cinema mural. Largest painting on canvas to date
Moby-Dick published with Kent illustrations. Renews interest in Melville's work, and becomes a landmark in American illustrated books
1937   Duo Postal Service murals mounted in the Benjamin Franklin Library, Washington, DC (sets off prolonged sociopolitical controversy).
1953   Appeared before Senator Joseph McCarthy and Permanent Investigations Subcommittee
1958   Won "Right to Travel" case in the U.S. Supreme Court
1966   Named to the Academy of the Arts of the U.S.S.R.
1967   Received the Lenin Peace Prize, Russia
1971   Died: Plattsburgh, New York
