Wolf Kahn (américano-allemand, né le 4 octobre 1927 à Stuttgart) est un artiste principalement connu pour ses peintures de paysages, qu’il réalise en combinant à la fois les caractéristiques des peintures réalistes et celles issues du Color Field, pour créer des œuvres expressives et atmosphériques . Kahn déménage aux États-Unis à l’âge de 13 ans. Il étudie l’art au lycée, et en parallèle de son engagement dans la marine américaine, il travaille comme assistant artistique dans le studio de Hans Hofmann (allemand, 1880 - 1966), célèbre artiste abstrait.

Après avoir obtenu un diplôme à l’université de Chicago, il crée, avec l’aide d’autres assistants d’Hofmann, une galerie appelée The Hansa, où il expose de façon régulière à partir de la deuxième moitié des années 1950. Kahn est reconnu et encensé en tant qu’expert du colorisme. L’enseignement d’Hofmann concernant le rythme émergeant de la juxtaposition de couleur se reflète dans les paysages lumineux et célestes de Khan, inspirés de paysages qui se trouvent aux États-Unis, en Italie ou encore au Kenya. Le programme Fulbright et la fondation John-Simon Guggenheim lui remettent une bourse et il reçoit une récompense de l’American Academy of Arts and Letters. Ses œuvres font partie des collections du musée des beaux-arts de Boston, du Met et du Whitney Museum of American Art à New York, ainsi que du musée Hirshhorn et du Sculpture Garden à Washington, D.C. Kahn vit et travaille dans le Vermont.
