Zeng Fanzhi (chinois, né en 1964 à Wuhan) est un peintre contemporain, connu pour ses peintures expressionnistes chargées de connotations politiques et psychologiques. Né dans la province Hubei en Chine, Zeng étudie la peinture à l’huile à l’académie des beaux-arts de Hubei, où il est profondément influencé par l’expressionnisme allemand. Cette esthétique influence un grand nombre de ses tableaux, dont Hospital, Meat et Mask.

Ses dernières peintures, comme les portraits Great Men et sa série de paysages, s’inspirent de traditions de peintures chinoises, plus particulièrement celle de la dynastie Song. Son travail est exposé dans des galeries et des musées à travers le monde et en 2008 Mask Series 1996 No.6 devient le plus grand succès pour un artiste asiatique contemporain. En 2013, son œuvre The Last Supper est vendue plus de 23 millions de dollars lors d’une vente aux enchères organisée par Sotheby’s Hong Kong. Il vit et travaille actuellement à Pékin.
