DESCRIPTION:  Other Dances was choreographed by Jerome Robbins for Natalia Makarova and Mikhail Baryshnikov. It followed two larger-scale Chopin piano ballets, Dances at a Gathering (1968) and In the Night (1970). It was one of the few pieces choregraphed for Makarova, who rued publicly that she wished choreographers would do pieces for her. Clive Barnes, describing Max Waldman's dance photographs wrote "Makarova's Dying Swan takes place before our eyes. One can almost hear the music. Still pictures are creating movement in our brains." But I feel this image was the most poetic and fluid of all of Waldman's image of Makarova. Size includes black photographic border. Signed and marked AP (artist proof) in gray pencil in recto margins. It is doubtful that Waldman ever completed his editions on any of his images before he died in 1981. According to the archive records, only 13 of the planned edition of 25 prints were ever made in this size. To quote Carol Greunke, Archivist for the Max Waldman Archive, "WOW! you have bought a great collection! Albert was one of Max's best friends, and I knew him as well. Max had given Albert some of his best work, and the best quality prints as Albert knew what was good. You have some of his best prints, as his favorite paper was discontinued in the mid seventies, and he used what he had for his favorite images. All these prints were made by Max at the same time as the negatives." Provenance: photographer; friend and fellow photographer Albert Nye; Caroline Nye (daughter). In new contemporary black frame. Shipping and insurance costs will be added to the price and must be paid for by the buyer. Pennsylvania and New York buyers must pay appropriate sales tax. International clients are responsible for their VAT and other custom's oriented charges.
