DISCUSSION:
This captivating still life created by Georges Braque is incredibly rich and bold in color. Beautifully composed and balanced in shape and form, the work is enriched with a dark hue that seemingly blends in with the color of the pitcher. However, bright bursts of yellow and green break up the gloom and with the help of the detailed tablecloth, our gaze is anchored by the weight of each object against the surface of the table. This work is large in scale, helping to place the viewer in the environment from which this still life was captured.

Created in 1956, this work was published by Maeght and listed in the Maeght archives as no. 1004. Hand-signed by Georges Braque (1882 – 1963) in pencil in the lower right margin and also signed in black the plate in the lower left. Numbered 13/200 in pencil in the lower left margin and printed on BFK Rives watermarked paper with deckle edges at the top and bottom.

ABOUT THE FRAMING:
Framed in a Spanish-style black and gold moulding, this frame is the ideal compliment for this early twentieth century work. With its subtle, undulating forms, the sculptural details in the moulding gracefully balance the unique forms within the work. All materials are archival and museum quality. The frame is finished with a white, linen-wrapped mat, gold inner fillet and archival Plexiglas® cover.
