Jean Schwalbe, born in Portland, Oregon was originally a watercolorist, but has worked in acrylics since the 1980's. Her bold, energetic approach to painting the Northwest landscape captures the energy of the rushing rivers and majestic mountains by pushing her color palette to rich warm and vivid hues. Jean's impressionistic paintings are a surprise to the viewer as the colors are not what one would expect to find in a traditional landscape. Her wonderful warm colors of yellow, red, burnt sienna, orange and purple mingle with her blues, greens and browns to enhance and emphasize the strong and diverse landscapes found in the state of Oregon.
Jean's jeweled toned masterful abstract paintings feature reds and the warm colors combined with a myriad of patterned shapes. The quilt like squares have gone wild with unpredictablilty. Intriguingly, they never cease to amaze the viewer with a new perspective at each sighting. Two of Jean's larger abstract paintings are on view at The Allison Resort in Newberg, Oregon.
