David Richard Gallery is pleased to present, Seeing Red, one of the gallery’s two inaugural exhibitions at its new gallery space in the Santa Fe Railyard Arts District. Seeing Red is a group exhibition presented in the perimeter gallery and mezzanine spaces that features the color red with a selection of artwork by guest and gallery artists, including: Gabriele Evertz, Beverly Fishman, Harmony Hammond, Maxwell Hendler, Tom Holland, Tim Jag, Matsumi Kanemitsu, Tom Martinelli, Scott Malbaurn, Robert Motherwell, Julian Stanczak, Yozo Suzuki, Robert Swain and Leo Valledor. An on-line catalogue will be available with an essay, On Perceptual Abstraction and Red: Color as Subject in Painting, by Gabriele Evertz.

The color red can be vibrant, stimulating, lush, passionate or seductive and the specific human reaction is the result of the combination of hue, value and saturation. Red is also a signifier and has many meanings in different cultures, religions and disciplines, thus the interpretation can be highly subjective. In this exhibition we feature many of the gallery’s artists and their abstract artwork in a variety of media, including canvas, paper, stainless steel, fiberglass, cast resin and photography. Abstraction uncouples color from any referent and allows for a perceptual experience through human senses and the memories, emotions and feelings triggered by color relative to the composition, medium and context in the work of art.

David Richard Gallery, LLC in the Railyard Arts District, specializes in post-war contemporary abstract art and features both historic and contemporary geometric, Op, Pop, Color Field, Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism and Feminist art in a variety of media. The gallery represents established mid to late-career artists who were part of important art historical movements during the 1950s through 1980s. The gallery also represents artist estates, emerging artists and offers secondary market works.
