Daniel Hourdé 'Man in Progress'
05 December 2013 - 25 January 2014
After his much acclaimed installation conceived for the church of Saint-Germaindes-
Prés, Daniel Hourdé comes back to the neighborhood with a new solo show
starting next December. The human body, tortured and forthright, but no less
radiant, is a leitmotif for the paintings and sculptures by Daniel Hourdé.
« Daniel Hourdé, an adept of polymorphism and acutely sensible
to manifestations of the human form, sets forth an aesthetic project
to render visible that which exists within the body’s very form.
Human matter sculpted in wax reveals in its finished surface the
infinite substrata progressing downward to the core, an amalgam
of matter and animation. Imprinted upon a diversity of bodies,
one sees a whole repertory of passions and sensations carefully
assembled by the artist. Whether dancing or at rest, these forms
take part in a choreography. Charcoal bodies suspended in the
space between life and death, these are also bodies in distress,
detached and alone. »
