Tal R exhibition at Galleri Bo Bjerggaard

On April 5th the exhibition Sortedam, featuring all new works by Tal R, opens at Galleri Bo Bjerggaard. This is the first solo show by Tal R in Denmark since The Sum at Louisiana in 2007, and he will make use if the whole gallery space for his paintings, drawings and the installation “Sortedam Skærebræt Pavillon”.

Tal R has chosen to name the show Sortedam after one of the three famous lakes in Copenhagen called Sortedams dossering, which starts at Dronning Louises Bro, continues to Fredens Bro and then further towards Østerbrogade.

With this title Tal R wishes to emphasize the focal point of the exhibition which is Copenhagen and his own relationship with the city. Tal R believes that cities, like many others things, only truly are something through the people who inhabit it; the meaning that is attached to a city and the places that you, in Tal R’s own words, can attach a rhyme to. At the new exhibition Copenhageners will be able to recognize buildings and figures from the different areas of the city in the pieces.

In connection to the exhibition Galleri Bo Bjerggaard will be publishing a catalogue featuring documentation of the pieces as well as a text written by Copenhagen based writer and DJ Djuna Barnes.

Tal R was born in 1967 in Tel Aviv, Israel, but has lived most of his life in Copenhagen, where he also went to The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1994-2000. He has now made his mark internationally as one of Denmark’s leading contemporary artists.

His work is featured in many internationally acknowledged art collections, including Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk; Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf; Moderna Museet, Stockholm and Kiasma, Helsinki. This coming autumn ARoS in Århus will be showing the largest Tal R exhibition to this date.

Everyone is welcome to the opening of Sortedam, which will be happening on Friday April 5th from 16-18. Tal R will be present at the opening.

The exhibition will be open at Galleri Bo Bjerggaard until June 22nd 2013.
