Matthew Marks is pleased to announce an exhibition at his Los Angeles gallery of work by Darren Almond, Katharina Fritsch, Martin Honert, Gary Hume, Paul Sietsema, Rebecca Warren and Terry Winters. The paintings and sculptures on view are the work of a diverse group of artists from different generations, many of whom have rarely shown in Los Angeles.
The exhibition includes Coming Up For Air, one of Darren Almond’s earliest aluminum train plate reliefs, Katharina Fritsch’s iconic sculpture of a bright red postcard, Martin Honert’s sculptures of an airplane and polar bear, on view in Los Angeles for the first time, and two new works by Gary Hume: an English limestone sculpture that references botanical themes found regularly in his work, as well as a large portrait painting in his signature hand-mixed enamel colors.
Also on view are four of Paul Sietsema’s new paintings from a group of works based on metal currency and paint spills, a recent Rebecca Warren sculpture, Toto, a female figure adorned with a bow on her head, and Terry Winter’s Tessellation Figures (7), a large abstract work that utilizes pigments that reveal the various layers that are built up on the canvas.
Darren Almond, Katharina Fritsch, Martin Honert, Gary Hume, Paul Sietsema, Rebecca Warren and Terry Winters will be on view from July 14 through August 25, 2012, Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. at 1062 North Orange Grove.
