For two decades, Peyton Wright Gallery has exhibited one of the most extensive collections of public and private devotional art in the country. Art of Devotion is a visually stunning and historically significant exhibition that features paintings, furniture, silver, and sculpture from colonial-era Mexico, Central and South America, as well as Europe. The Spanish Colonial collection dates from the 16th to the 19th centuries and includes work from Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, Mexico, Ecuador, Chile, Venezuela, Guatemala and the Philippines.

The exhibition will also showcase historic New Mexican santos, bultos, cristos, and retablos from 18th and early 19th century classic period santeros, making this show one of the finest and most comprehensive exhibitions of devotional iconographic art in the United States. According to Albuquerque Journal critic Kathaleen Roberts, "The works [in the exhibition] fuse disparate worlds, illustrating the swift movement of art and culture during this transformative period in the New World."

Art of Devotion will commence with an opening reception on Friday, December 6 from 5 to 8pm, and will be on view through February, 2014.
