Zum dritten Mal stellt die Galerie Voss das fotografische Werk der in Stockholm lebenden Künstlerin Maria Friberg aus.
Friberg, die ihre Fotografien und Videoarbeiten grundsätzlich wie ein Gemälde betrachtet, nähert sich in ihrem entsprechend betitelten Bilderzyklus "The Painting Series" nunmehr sowohl mit Sicht auf den Schaffensprozess als auch auf das Resultat der Malerei an. Daher können die Bilder in ihrer aktuellen Fotoserie als Dokumentation einer Performance beschrieben werden, an welcher die Individuen in einem malerischen Prozess teilnehmen.
Ähnlich der Aktionsmalerei von Künstlern wie Jackson Pollock oder den monochromen Malereien von Yves Klein, sind die Darstellungen auf den Fotografien direkte Resultate der malerischen Geste. Dabei erschafft Friberg Situationen, in denen die Farbe fließt, während die von ihr umgebenen Individuen eine improvisierte Choreografie aufführen. Die Bilder sind aufwändig inszeniert, jedoch nicht digital bearbeitet. Dabei ist der Arbeitsvorgang zum Teil willkürlich, da das Endergebnis erst nach der Entwicklung des Bildes offenbart wird.
Mit ihren farbigen, abstrakten Eruptionen beziehen sich die Bilder auf astronomische Sternenbilder oder organische Strukturen und sind Mikrokosmos und Makrokosmos zugleich.

For the third time Galerie Voss will present the photographic work of the
Stockholm-based artist Maria Friberg. Friberg, who has always considered
her photographs and videos as a sort of paintings, approaches painting in
regards to the production as well as the end result. Therefore the images
in "The Painting Series" could be described as a documentation of a performance,
where the individuals participate in a painterly process.
Just like the action painting of artists such as Jackson Pollock or the
monochrome paintings by Yves Klein, the images are the direct results of
the painterly gesture. Friberg sets up a situation where the paint flows and
the individuals perform an improvised choreography, surrounded by
paint. The images are elaborately staged, but they have not been digitally
altered. The process is partially random, the final result isn’t revealed until
after the images have been developed.
With their chromatic, abstract eruptions, the images also refer to astronomical
constellations or organic structures and they are simultaneously
micro- and macrocosms.
