To celebrate the fifty years of The Elkon Gallery, Inc. and the fiftieth anniversary of The Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA) the gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by Friedel Dzubas (1915-1994).

Dzubas came to the United States in 1939. In 1958 he exhibited with Leo Castelli, 1959-1960 at French & Co., when Clement Greenberg was director. In 1961 Dzubas was one of the first artists to join the Robert Elkon Gallery the year that it opened. He was an influential figure in the Color-Field movement in New York.

The group of works selected for this exhibition are all from the 1960’s. The acclaimed art critic Barbara Rose wrote “in the works of the early sixties each individual element carries greater authority. By paring down, simplifying, and clarifying his motifs, Dzubas appears to be striving for a more immediate, direct impact…what is lost is not so much fascinating visual data as irrelevant detail; what is gained is clarity of focus and the increased power of the condensed image.”1

The exhibition begins on Monday October 15th, 2012 and will close on December 14th, 2012.
