She often collaborates with indigenous artists of New Zealand, Siberia, Australia, the Arctic, pueblos of the Southwest, sharing her Navajo (Dine) cultural connections with them. She incorporates a personal history into her work while her aesthetic depicts a purity of form that is universally accessible. In 2012 she served as a popular artist-in-residence at the Denver Art Museum in a specially-built studio. She interacted with hundreds of visitors demonstrating her print- making and painting processes. She is an in-demand lecturer as well.

She is in such collections as the Corcoran Museum, Museum of Art at the Rhode Island School of Design, National Museum of the American Indian, Denver Art Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, NM, Milwaukee Art Museum, Australian National Gallery and the Estonian Museum.

Yazzie is also part of the exhibit, “Stands With a Fist” at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in Santa Fe opening May 24, 2013 and will be having a solo exhibit at the Navajo Nation Museum in Window Rock, Arizona, July 18, 2013: “Melanie Yazzie, Bridging Cultures through Printmaking, Exploring the Connection of Two Cultures, the Maori of New Zealand and the Dine People.”

Yazzie will be in Santa Fe May 20 and will also be available for an interview before that. She would be a fascinating subject for a story. Please contact KERRY GREEN, Glenn Green Galleries’ Director, to make arrangements to interview Melanie Yazzie.
