“Aks” and “Suwar” are the Persian and Arab words for pictorial representations. In this show – which runs alongside the first exhibition of Middle Eastern photographers at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London – Rose Issa Projects brings together myriad talents in contemporary photography from the Arab world and Iran.

Aks and Suwar introduces an alternative spectrum of styles and approaches, from staged narratives to montage, painted stencils based on photography to digital photography on embroidered canvas and videoworks.
Most of the artists in this exhibition feature in Iranian Photography Now (Hatje Cantz, 2008) and Arab Photography Now (Kehrer Verlag, 2011), both edited by Rose Issa.
“Suwar” includes work by:
Chant Avedissian – Arwa Abouon – Karima Al Shomely - Nabil Boutros - Manal Al Dowayan – Tarek Al Ghossein – Jowhara Al Saud – Omar D. - Hassan Hajjaj – Nermine Hammam – Susan Hefuna – Youssef Nabil - Sabah Naim - Raeda Saadeh
