Lara Merrett: Be My Inside Looking Out    Jun 21 - Aug 5, 2012

The Cat Street Gallery is delighted to present Australian artist Lara Merrett’s first solo show in Asia, ‘Be my inside looking out’.

Lara Merrett’s amorphic and imaginative paintings convey a dynamic energy through their vibrancy. The work can be viewed as explorations into the abstract, but also the figurative at times. Seductive smooth surfaces and washes of colour dominate the sophisticated compositions. The viewer is presented with a multi-layered organic visual experience. Recently Merrett has employed discrete areas of pointillist detailing and metallic paints that add curiousity and depth to the paintings.

Merrett’s canvases can be seen as spiritual meditations on our physical environments, but also emotional and psychological experiences that generate overwhelming feelings beyond the everyday.

Lara Merrett was born in 1971 in Melbourne, Australia, and currently works and resides in Sydney. She gained both her Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from the University of New South Wales. Having extensively exhibited in Australia, Lara’s pieces are also held in the collections of Artbank, Melbourne, the University of New South Wales, Sydney, the Macquarie Bank and UBS Australia.
