The European Parliament in Brussels will hold, as from next September 03, an individual exhibition of Brazilian painter Carlos Araujo.

This exhibition will be presented by the Italian Government at a special space reserved for member countries, and will be open by the Italian Ambassador in Belgium, Mr. Roberto Bettarini, with the attendance of 27 Parliament representatives on September 04.

The exhibition will consist of an 18-meter long main triptych executed in oil on canvass titled “Genesis – The Sixth Day”. A message of peace, reminding mankind of the equality in its origins on the sixth day, when it was then created by God. A pertinent context in troubled sociopolitical times, in face of the economic crises of last decade and of the timeless need of the human solidarity effective application.

The eBook “Bible in 1000 Images” will also be introduced on the occasion, which will be made available at an inedited image bank with globalized access through Apple and Google initially in 8 languages. In this eBook the visitor will find 1200 pictures portraying about 1750 Bible verses, from Genesis to Revelation, developed by a single painter.

The project of Bible narration through pictures began in 1980 in Paris when Carlos Araujo was invited to develop the original lithographs object-book “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”, based on the Apocalypse text by Saint John of Patmos and Blasco Ibañez, completing the special book collection of French publishing house Ariane Lancell, which has in its curriculum the edition of similar books in original lithographs by artists such as Salvador Dali, Ernst Fuchs, Hanz Belmer, and Leonor Fini, among others.

In the latest 30 years, Carlos Araujo devote-se himself to the execution of paintings inspired in passages from the Old and New Testaments. In 2007 he published “Bible Citations”, with the first copy having been given to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI upon his visit to Brazil by the Government of the State of Estado de São Paulo. This edition was taken to Europe and presented at the International Contemporary Art Biennial of Firenze 2007 at a special room with large-dimension panels. Also this year the France-Brazil House in Rio de Janeiro held a great exhibition for the book launch in Brazil. In 2009 the Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside-the-Walls, Rome’s second cathedral, for the first opened its doors to present the edition simultaneously with a set of works by the artist.

In 2010 it was presented at the Brazilian Museum of Sculpture – Mube, proceeding with the exhibition itinerancy with a new edition of the book titled “ARAUJO – Old and New Testament Paintings”.

The painter has in its curriculum three great individual exhibitions held at the São Paulo Art Museum – MASP and a monograph published in Paris in 1984, 1987 and 1989 by Claude Draeger – Editions Anthese, besides other shows at important international foundations and institutions. www.carlosaraujo.com
