Gerald Peters Gallery of Santa Fe is pleased to present Albert Paley. This exhibit of this widely respected metal sculptor opens with a public reception on Friday, April 29, 2011.

Albert Paley is the first metal sculptor to receive the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Institute of Architects, the AIA’s highest award to a non-­‐architect. “The allure of Paley’s art comes through its intrinsic sense of integration of art and architecture,” as one noted architect stated. Albert Paley as been an active artist for over 30 years at his studio in Rochester, New York.

Commissioned by both public institutions and private corporations, Paley has completed more than 60 site-­‐ specific works. Some notable examples include the Portal Gates for the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., a sculpture and plaza designed for Adobe Systems in San Jose, CA, the Portal Gates for the New York State Senate Chambers in Albany, a plaza sculpture for AT&T in Atlanta, GA. Recently completed works include a pair of entrance sculptures for the Columbia Public Library, Columbia, Missouri and a 120-­‐foot long entryway sculpture in Forrest Park for the St. Louis Zoological Park, St. Louis, Missouri, among others. Pieces by Albert Paley can be found in the permanent collections of many major museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Western Australia, Fitzwilliam, British Museum.

As Paley remarks about the current exhibition at the Gerald Peters Gallery, “This exhibition of sculpture, maquettes, furniture and drawings reflect my ongoing dialogue with iron and steel. Plastic and fluid, yet rigid and inorganic, these forms reflect paradox and a complexity of contradictions as they move through space.” He adds, “The aspect of synergy and contrast amplify and reflect their essence: the ephemeral mark frozen in time.”

Broadly published and an international lecturer, Paley received both is BFA and MFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. He received honorary doctorates from several New York state universities. He also holds an endowed chair at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
