This work is part of an inquiry into the relationship between architectonic space and sound conveyed by
mathematical laws. Numerous speakers of various dimensions and power capacity are suspended in the
exhibition space by braided steel cables anchored to the walls. The speakers are connected to a multichannel
audio reproduction system through which is transmitted a composition consisting of synthetic sounds and
sound samples. These are elaborated with software that the artist constructed ad hoc and which make use of
data related to the architectural measurements of the room hosting the work, to the acoustic resonance
present in the room itself, and to the length of the steel cables to which the speakers are fixed. In this way there
is created a multisensory environment in which there exists a great coherence between the visual aspects and
those of sound.

Roberto Pugliese's interest is focused on the relationship between sound and
space by creating installations that act on the visual and psychological
perception of artificial sound. The artist creates multisensory environments
such as Aritmetiche Architetture Sonore and Acustiche derive visionarie
centred on a balance between sound and image. He does this is in order to allow
the spectator to be completely immersed in the perception of a psychoacoustic
experience, one where the relationship between the work and its host
environment is activated by physical and conceptual energies and tensions.
Inspired by sound art, and by kinetic and programmed art, the artist's work
unites mechanical sound reproduction mechanisms with software
programmes in order to develop the analytical dynamics of psychological
components linked to the relationship between art, technology, and
architecture.
"So sound becomes both the object of my research and the means for acoustic
and visual expression, a vital energy that animates the inanimate, a guide for
analyzing and stimulating the human mind and perception", the artist has
explained. This is an analysis that has led him to elaborate unusual sound
perspectives where the sound moves and acts as a protagonist.

Roberto Pugliese: Aritmetiche Architetture Sonore

Il lavoro è parte di una ricerca sul rapporto tra spazio architettonico e suono veicolato da leggi matematiche.
Nell’ambiente espositivo sono sospesi, mediante cavi di acciaio intrecciato ancorati alle pareti, numerosi
speaker di diverse dimensioni e potenza. Gli speaker sono collegati ad un sistema di riproduzione audio
multicanale attraverso il quale è diffusa una composizione sonora realizzata mediante suoni sintetici e
campionati. Questi suoni sono elaborati mediante software realizzati ad hoc dall’artista che, utilizzano dati
relativi alle misure architettoniche dell’ambiente ospitante il lavoro, alle risonanze acustiche presenti
nell’ambiente stesso e alle lunghezze dei cavi di acciaio ai quali sono fissati gli speaker. In questo modo si
viene a creare un ambiente multisensoriale nel quale esiste un’estrema coerenza tra aspetto visivo e sonoro.

La ricerca di Roberto Pugliese è incentrata sulla relazione tra il suono e lo spazio, attraverso la realizzazione di installazioni che agiscono sulla percezione visiva e psicologica di sonorità artificiali. L’artista costruisce degli ambienti multisensoriali come Aritmetiche Architetture Sonore Acustiche derive visionarie incentrati su un equilibrio tra suono ed immagine, per permettere allo spettatore di immergersi completamente nella percezione di un’esperienza psicoacustica, dove la relazione tra l’opera e l’ambiente che la ospita si attiva di energie e tensioni fisiche e concettuali. Ispirato alle correnti della sound art e dell’arte cinetica e programmata, il lavoro dell’artista unisce apparecchiature meccaniche di riproduzione del suono con programmi software, per sviluppare dinamiche di analisi delle componenti psicologiche legate al rapporto tra arte, tecnologia e architettura .“Il suono diventa quindi sia oggetto di ricerca, sia mezzo di espressione acustica e visiva, energia vitale che anima l’inanimato, guida per analizzare e stimolare la psiche e la percezione umana” spiega Pugliese. Un’analisi che ha condotto l’artista ad elaborare inedite prospettive sonore, dove il suono si muove ed agisce da protagonista.
