ARCOmadrid, which will take place from to in Madrid, is Spain’s premiere exhibition. ARCO was originally organized for the Spanish speaking market in 1982, when only a handful of international art fairs existed, and few represented Latin American artists. ARCOmadrid brings together over 160 galleries from 20 countries around the world, displaying everything from historical avant-garde pieces to classic Contemporary Art and Emerging Art.

This year, ARCOmadrid will present four curated projects: Focus Latin America, Young Galleries, FOCUS on Turkey, and Solo Objects. These fair highlights seek to promote emerging and established galleries in their various territories, and put special focus on installation art. Curator Vasif Kortun collaborated with ARCOmadrid on FOCUS on Turkey, in an effort to present elite galleries in the market.

Even after the art fair doors close for the day, Madrid will still be buzzing from the activities of the AfterARCO program. Some of the highlights of AfterARCO include Faro de Moncloa, which will offer a special appearance by artist Jenny Holzer, the Palace de Callao screening of A Place to Passage by Hussein Chalayan (as a part of FOCUS on Turkey), and the opening of Teatros del Canal’s contemporary dance studios, for a performance by their artists in residence.
