Master of the Life of Lydwina

( fl c. 1496–8). South Netherlandish woodcutter. He designed the illustrations for Johannes Brugman’s Vita Lidwinae, an account of the life of a local holy woman, printed at Schiedam in 1498. He may also be responsible for the title-page woodcuts in two books published at Gouda: Leven van Liedwy (1496) and the Historie vanden heiligen patriarch Joseph (1496 or later). Elements in his style derive from the somewhat earlier Master of the Chevalier Délibéré, and some of his figure types resemble those in paintings attributed to the Master of Delft, with whose workshop he may have been associated. His clear relationship to the early work of Jacob Cornelisz. is one of influence rather than identity.

Part of the Masters, anonymous, and monogrammists family
