(2) Gil de Morlanes (ii) [el joven]

( fl Saragossa, 1515–47). Son of (1) Gil de Morlanes (i). Having continued the work started by his father on S Engracia, Saragossa, from 1515 to 1519, he worked with Gabriel Yolí ( fl 1515; d 1538) on the retable (1520) for the chapel of S Augustín in Saragossa Cathedral, on a retable dedicated to Nuestra Señora del Portillo (1521; untraced) for the church of the same name and on the retable of the Visitation (Saragossa, Semin. Nue.) for the church of SS Juan y Pedro (destr. 1969). The courtyard of the Palacio de los Pardo (now Mus. Camón Aznar) in Saragossa is attributed to him, and he also collaborated on the Casa de los Morlanes. His most important and characteristic work, however, is the interior decoration of the Lonja of Saragossa (1541–51), which shows the exquisite refinement of his Plateresque ornamental carving.

Part of the Morlanes family
