Slodtz [Slods].

French family of artists. (1) Sébastien Slodtz, son of a master carpenter of Antwerp, moved to Paris in the 1680s and spent most of his working life there, carrying out royal commissions for the Menus Plaisirs du Roi (see MAISON DU ROI), over which he and later his sons were to enjoy a virtual monopoly. He had 13 children by his marriage (1696) to Madeleine Cucci, daughter of the goldsmith Domenico Cucci, of whom (2) Sébastien-Antoine Slodtz, (3) Paul-Ambroise Slodtz and (4) René-Michel Slodtz became sculptors, while Jean-Baptiste Slodtz (1699–1759) and Dominique-François Slodtz (1711–64) were painters, Dominique-François for the Menus Plaisirs.
